Dejah Thoris: Princess of Mars [Colored Pencil + Digital ©2012] In honor of the recent film adaptation of the John Carter of Mars books, my professor decided to give us the assignment of rendering Dejah Thoris using colored pencil. The whole process was invigorating! The goal was to achieve a pulp fiction cover style using like color palettes and “garish tones”. We had to utilize elements from the books such as the city of Helium, the martian landscape, two moons, and of course Dejah herself in context. The finished product was to incorporate text as if the piece was going to be published as the cover. My professor was completely in love with my design and I received great compliments from other spectators as well! But I hope my professor, Bill, knows that this assignment technically counts as fan art!
